Endangered blue whales are apparently now at risk for being hit and hurt in and around Long Beach. Because of their feeding grounds moving closer and closer to our port every year, the whales are starting to move into shipping lanes. “While this is a unique and exciting opportunity to have these animals out here, it also puts them at great risk,” said Calambokidis, co-founder of the Olympia, Wash.-based Cascadia Research Collective.
